Hyacinth: Prl Against Homosexuals Gays in the Polish People's Republic were targeted by the services basically since 1954. They seemed to be ideal candidates for collaborators: the shame of revealing their orientation was so great, and the fear was so strong, that it was easy to break them and convince them to cooperate. For this purpose, the secret service collected information about them, especially in large cities, in order to be able to conveniently access incriminating evidence when necessary. At the same time, there was a long-term media campaign presenting gays as a morally, health-wise, socially and politically dangerous element. The author managed to find interesting characters. Particularly noteworthy is the story of Waldemar Zboralski, a victim of the Hiacynt campaign, an LGBT activist after 1989, the hero of the famous film Homopl from 2008, who recently underwent a spiritual transformation, converted, "renounced" his orientation and became the hero of TV Trwam. Zboralski was a key witness in the failed campaign to recognize Operation Hyacinth as a communist crime - the Institute of National Remembrance found that the militia acted in accordance with the law at that time.
