  The Third Sex of the World This is not a book about a bygone world that left only good memories. On the contrary, it concerns modern times, and some of the people presented here can be found on the global Internet. It is certain that the text does not exhaust the topic. Each chapter of this book tells about a different cultural microcosm and a separate network of meanings assigned to gender. Dictionarily speaking, the third gender is a term used to describe people who are not perceived by themselves or their society as either men or women. These people rise above the "gender" regime, based on genitals and biology, choosing the anti-gender regime, based on desires, dreams and preferences. These people create unique cultural microcosms, integrated into society, which, for lack of happier ideas, we call the third - or fourth, fifth, etc. - gender. Waldemar Kuligowski presents the everyday lives of fa'fafine, xanith, muxe, baklâ, mashoga and others who are considered to have characteristics usually divided between women and men. It shows their ordinary lives, their working and relaxation times, their dreams and concerns, and where possible, it allows them to "speak" with their own voice. And at the same time, it complicates our lives - by raising doubts, pointing out exceptions to every rule and showing humans as both very creative and very plastic beings.
