  Tartu in the History of Slavic Philology: Issue 1 One of the fundamental oppositions of the semiotics of culture – “own – alien” – is also important for the language, which is the foundation of any ethnic culture and in which “own”, inherent to the given language, constituting its basis, and elements of “alien” at different levels of the language always coexist. The articles of the collection offered to the reader, which are located in two sections, make their contribution to the study of the cultural and social characteristics of language by studying the complex interaction of “own” and “alien” in language and speech. The title of the first coincides with the title of the collection “Own and Alien in Language and Speech”, the second reflects the applied aspect of this topic and is conventionally called “Own and Alien in Translation and Language Teaching”. The manifestation of the opposition in the Russian literary language and its territorial dialects both in the Russian language of Russia and beyond its borders in the conditions of language contacts is analyzed. The complex interaction and transitions of various units of the language within the opposition are traced.

  Одна из основополагающих оппозиций семиотики культуры – «свое – чужое», – важна и для языка, который является фундаментом любой этнической культуры и в котором всегда сосуществуют «свое», исконно присущее данному языку, составляющее его основу, и элемен-ты «чужого» на разных уровнях языка. Свою лепту в исследование культурной и социальной характеристики языка путем изучения сложного взаимодействия «своего» и «чужого» в языке и речи вносят статьи предлагаемого читателю сборника, которые расположены в двух разделах. Название первого совпадает с названием сборника «Свое и чужое в языке и речи», второй отражает прикладной аспект этой тематики и условно назван «Свое и чужое в переводе и преподавании языка». Анализируется проявление оппозиции в русском литературном языке и в его территориальных диалектах как в русском языке России, так и за ее пределами в условиях языковых контактов. Прослеживаются сложное взаимодействие и переходы различных единиц языка внутри оппозиции.
