Description
- Buddhist Architectural History in the Late Joseon Dynasty: Areas of Activity and Construction Techniques of Monk Masters This book presents a new methodology of research on the history of Korean architecture from the perspective of a monk artisan. In the history of our architecture, monk artisans are not recognized as an inaccessible field in connection with the religion of Buddhism, and thus have not been highlighted. However, considering the fact that many of the traditional buildings in Korea are Buddhist architecture and the construction of this architecture is built by a monk master, the study of a monk master has an important meaning in the study of our architectural history. The analysis of the areas of activity and construction techniques of eight monk masters in the late Joseon Dynasty in this book will be a valuable cornerstone for future research on master artisans in the history of architecture in Korea.
