  2010 Report on China's Shipping Development The Ministry of Transport has officially released the "2010 China Shipping Development Report." The report shows that driven by a moderate global economic recovery and rapid Chinese economic growth, China's waterway transport industry performed well in 2010. Mainland China holds 12 of the top 20 ports in the world by cargo throughput. The number of mainland China ports ranked among the world's top 20 container ports increased from seven the previous year to eight, with the Port of Shanghai surpassing Singapore for the first time to become the world's largest container port.
