  Anatoly Lunacharsky: Don Quixote of the Revolution Anatoly Vasilyevich Lunacharsky (1875-1933) is undoubtedly a key figure in the cultural history of the "red project". Heading the People's Commissariat of Education, he supervised education at all levels, the elimination of illiteracy, science, theater, literature, museums, and fine arts, and held this post for almost 12 years - longer than any of the first people's commissars. For many years, Lunacharsky served as a "lightning rod" for the intelligentsia. Thanks to him, many survived the horrors of the Civil War, the "red terror", repressions, and ideological persecution. He can be accused of many miscalculations, but one thing cannot be taken away: he sacredly believed in the beneficial power of culture in the formation of the "new man" and remained a son of his tragic century.

  Анатолий Васильевич Луначарский (1875-1933) - фигура в культурной истории "красного проекта", безусловно, ключевая. Возглавляя Наркомат просвещения, он руководил образованием всех уровней, ликвидацией неграмотности, наукой, театром, литературой, музеями, изобразительным искусством, причем занимал этот пост почти 12 лет- дольше всех из числа первых наркомов. Долгие годы Луначарский служил для интеллигенции "громоотводом". Многие благодаря ему пережили ужасы Гражданской войны, "красный террор", репрессии и идеологические гонения. Его можно упрекнуть во многих просчетах, но одного не отнять: он свято верил в благодатную силу культуры в деле формирования " нового человека", оставался сыном своего трагического века.
