"word for word") is a show based on historical texts attributed to specific people, extracted from various sources - memoirs, transcripts, archival documents, testimonies, articles from the press of the time, etc. -, designed, collected and assembled in such a way as to restore as close as possible to reality the atmosphere of the events that once occurred. This is where the screenwriter and the historian come together. History as a narrative of the past is also an act of imagination, of reconstruction, both select information from a continuous flow of facts, events and phenomena, which they collect, organize and adapt, in order to put them into a narrative (more more or less) coherent. And since the facts of the past take shape and meaning only in a story(ir), the theater, which gives the text the chance to be embodied in speech, sounds and lights, seems to be created for such a closeness..." „Dacă o piesă sau un scenariu clasic este creația unui anumit autor de la idee, temă, personaje și până la ultimul cuvânt scris, atunci teatrul documentar folosește exclusiv texte deja existente, așa-zise documente, cum ar fi: scrisori, telegrame, stenograme, articole de ziar, rapoarte, jurnale, sondaje etc., etc. (…) Dacă, în cazul unui text de teatru de ficțiune, autorul operează cu imaginația (chiar dacă se inspiră din realitate), atunci regula de bază în teatrul verbatim este să nu schimbi nimic, să aduci faptele și vorbele oamenilor așa cum au fost expuse și documentate. „Teatrul verbatim (din lat. „cuvânt cu cuvânt”) este un spectacol bazat pe texte istorice atribuite unor persoane concrete, extrase din diverse surse – memorii, stenograme, documente arhivistice, mărturii, articole din presa vremii etc. –, concepute, colectate şi adunate în așa manieră, încât să restabilească cât mai aproape de realitate atmosfera evenimentelor ce s-au produs cândva. Aici scenaristul şi istoricul se apropie. Istoria ca narațiune a trecutului este și ea un act de imaginație, de reconstruire, ambii selectează informaţiile dintr-un șuvoi continuu de fapte, evenimente şi fenomene, pe care le colectează, organizează şi adaptează, ca să le plămădească într-o narațiune (mai mult sau mai puţin) coerentă. Şi deoarece faptele trecutului prind contur şi sens doar într-o povest(ir) e, teatrul, care oferă textului șansa să se întrupeze în rostire, sunete şi lumini, parcă este creat pentru o asemenea apropiere…” (VIRGIL PÂSLARIUC)
