“I Myself Became A Diasporic Russian”: Conversations Abroad About Exile and the Message
«Я сам стал русским зарубежьем» : заграничные беседы об изгнании и послании
“I Myself Became A Diasporic Russian”: Conversations Abroad About Exile and the Message Abroad is not only a geographical or political concept, but also a cultural, ethical, and psychological one. Abroad has its own axes of coordinates, traditions, rules of conduct. This is a kind of purgatory, in which an emigrant, a refugee, a relocator tests himself for existential strength. Everyone has their own reasons for leaving: disgust with the order that has developed in Russia, ideological disagreement with the war and the regime. Ukrainians have much more terrible reasons: bombing, grief, death that came to their homes. But the future is similar for everyone: the need to build a second life, to preserve oneself and one's word, to find support in a foreign country. In this collection, those who create the cultural code of the new Russia beyond its borders speak: poets and artists, directors and scientists, actors and translators. Their voices form a variegated, bitter and piercing picture of today's Russian diaspora, in which a space of freedom, dialogue and personal responsibility is being born.
