• Description

  Kašpar Lén, a Bricklayer Kašpar Lén, a bricklayer, returns home to Prague after three years of war. However, he has no one close to him there. His friend, the mason Kryštof, with whom he lived in a rented house, drowned himself out of despair over the fact that his daughter Mařka, whom Lén loved as a little girl, was spoiled by the merchant Konopík and became a prostitute. Lén is determined to get Mařka out of the brothel and take revenge on Konopík. He works on the construction of Konopík's house and prepares to kill him. First published in 1908.
