  • Description

Dutch New: Architecture, Typography, Photography, Advertising The multilingual publication focuses on the issue of avant-garde typography. It uses the work of an exceptional artistic personality - the Dutch designer, photographer and filmmaker Paul Schuitema, placing him within the framework of contemporary tendencies and currents observed in the wider Central Europe. Above all, it provides a translation of his key articles and recalls the natural connections between the Czechoslovak and Dutch avant-garde of the interwar period. Paul Schuitema is one of the important and formative figures of the European environment of the first half of the 20th century. He became famous not only as a practitioner, but also as a theorist, entrepreneur and linker of cultural and social environments. His trip to Czechoslovakia, which he visited in 1936, is memorable. Schuitema arrived at the invitation of František Kalivoda to lecture in Brno and Prague on New Photography, the use of photography in graphic design and the Dutch film avant-garde.
