  Local Economic Development of Municipalities in Sarajevo Canton: Leadership for Transformational Development in the New Normal: Study Local economic development is becoming an increasingly topical issue in Bosnia and Herzegovina, and three factors contribute to this. The first is related to dramatic changes in the global, regional and national environment of local economic development, the second refers to the slowdown in economic growth at the macro level, and the third to the difficulties in achieving consensus on development principles at the state, entity and cantonal levels. The impact of the above factors has particularly intensified after the COVID-19 crisis, when it became clear that development can no longer be based on traditional driving factors and that an era of a new normal is coming in which the public sector is becoming increasingly important for meeting key needs in human development, and public investments, principles of social equality, innovation, digitalization, energy transition, the fight against climate change and the green economy, reindustrialization and better management of development resources are becoming the basis for the development and resilience of society and the economy. The research we present is based on a survey of the perceptions of mayors of municipalities in Bosnia and Herzegovina on the opportunities and challenges of local economic development in the conditions of the new normal.
