  • Description

Acta Historica Universitatis Klaipedensis XLV: Struggles for Freedom in the Eastern Baltic Region in 1918-1920 The struggle for power that unfolded between 1918 and 1920 in the area on the eastern shores of the Baltic Sea has already attracted a great deal of attention from historians. This struggle, known in the national imaginations as the Finnish Civil War or War of Independence, and the Estonian, Latvian and Lithuanian wars of independence, is usually discussed in the context of a single country as a national struggle. The current volume of the Acta Historica Universitatis Klaipedensis does not challenge the imaginations of national cultures, but offers articles based on new research on four national wars. Researchers from four countries reconsider the role of the German armed forces, the intensity of the combat, loyalty and motivation, the involvement of women, and the cultural legacy of these wars, also providing a systematic account of the contribution by archaeologists to uncovering and exploring these wars.
