In Denial: Stories The book is about the events of the 70s, the outbreak of Jewish national consciousness and the movement persecuted by the authorities for leaving the USSR for Israel, of which I was a participant.
The book consists of short stories about the life of Moscow “refuseniks” - Jews who submitted documents to leave and received, for one reason or another or without them at all, a refusal to their request, not limited by any time frame. The novellas are united by the theme of the book - the inventive, dangerous struggle of the refuseniks against the Soviet regime (“Sofia Vlasyevna”).
The period of incarceration lasted from two or three to seventeen years. The book reveals to the uninitiated reader why the years of “sitting on the chain” of the Red Pharaoh to this day seem to some refuseniks to be the best years of their lives.
