• Description

The Majority The stories included in Dmitry Bykov's new collection "The Majority" create a fantastic and distorted world. One reality breaks through another: “there are unmotivated trips in night express trains and intercity buses, appointments made by unknown people, services to secret cults, collection of information in favor of non-existent or secret states. Stars, all the time stars, folding into unfamiliar configurations. Heroes are mixed up here: Pobedonostsev quotes Bulgakov to Dostoevsky, Harry Potter is invited to NIICHAVO, and the Lady with the Dog strikes Gurov with practicality and cynicism. Times are confused here: the past is replayed and unrecognizable in the new production, the present sprouts with fictitious stories, and they try to change the future by traveling back. Even geography rebels here: the living river Neglinka is hidden underground, and the dead rise from the ground. Such is the world after February 24th. But "paradise is an opportunity to assume that there is another life." It has yet to be found, and each story of the "Majority" is not only an expression of despair, but also a step towards finding this reality.
