  Music and Theatre: Historical Contexts / Contemporary Interpretations The idea of ​​the collection "Music and Theater" was born in the History of Music and Theater Department of the Lithuanian Cultural Research Institute. The researchers of this department wanted to present to the readers their latest research and discoveries, which are more often available to those interested in music and theater culture in the specialized press intended for the academic community. It is true that the initial intention - to outline the historical and contemporary links between theater and music creations, to determine the interactions between these two art fields - had to be adjusted. This gave more freedom not only to the authors of the collection, but also opened the collection itself to different topics, objects, and more diverse approaches to their research or analysis. In this way, the ranks of LKTI authors were supplemented by researchers from other institutions, historiographical researches of archives and sources were interwoven with empirical ones based on an analytical and hermeneutic approach.
