A Hundred Years' History of Chinese Parliamentarianism: Who Have Been Represented, By Whom? The study of parliamentary history in Britain, Japan and other countries belongs to the classical research field of history and political science. Although some studies on parliaments and elections in China focus on the Congress in the early years of the Republic of China, the Political Council during the Anti-Japanese War, the National Assembly during the Civil War, and the National People’s Congress and the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference in the early days of the People’s Republic of China after the founding of the Communist Party of China, the research on it is not sufficient, especially the works spanning from the Republic of China (Mainland) period to the modern Chinese mainland system in 1949 are rarely seen. Furthermore, the extremely tortuous modern history of China itself is a continuous system transition. During this process, parliaments either died short-lived or varied in nature in different periods, making research even more difficult. This book attempts to further examine the meaning and practice of indirect democracy/representativeism in modern countries by looking at 100 years of parliamentary history in modern times, briefly comparing international and Chinese major cases, and focusing on the current situation in mainland China.
