Description
- Opening the Horizons of the Possible: On Non-binary Sexual and Sexual Identities in Slovenia "The work deals with the everyday life of sexually and / or sexually non-binary persons. It is a social group of those who do not identify with society with more or less familiar labels at the level of sexuality (heterosexuality - gay / lesbian) and at the level of gender (male / female). As such, at the level of society, they are often overlooked, perceived as non-existent, as well as subject to many prejudices and stereotypes, which is also confirmed by the data presented in the book. The work is based on 52 interviews with 23 sexually and / or sexually non-binary persons. It is certainly not a holistic insight into the complexity of their daily lives. In any case, it gives us an insight into the social burden of everyday life, into the grip of social structures and binary categorizations that these marginalized social groups face. This grip on social structures cannot be dealt with simply by a simple act of the will, since social structures are embodied in the actors themselves. However, if their narratives testify to the embodiment and "resilience" of structures, they also testify to the power of non-binary persons, which is also the power to create alternative divisions of the world, new - more inclusive - self-evident. In short, they testify to the power of expanding the horizons of the possible beyond what seems inevitable and fatal. We hope that the present work also contributes to this. "
