The Novi Sad Serbian People's Committee, among other things, aimed to prepare and organize a declaration of the Serbian and Slavic population on their future status. To that end, he called elections for the Grand National Assembly, and all adult Serbs and other Slavs, including women, were given the right to vote. On November 25, 1918, 757 deputies from 211 municipalities of Banat, Backa and Baranja gathered in Novi Sad (mostly Serbs - 578, then 84 Bunjevac, 62 Slovaks, 21 Ruthenians, 3 Shocks, 2 Croats, but also 6 Germans and 1 Hungarian), among them seven women, which was not common at that time. On that occasion, the Great National Assembly of Serbs, Bunjevci and other Slavs in Banat, Bačka and Baranja made a decision by acclamation to secede from Hungary and join Serbia. The Grand National Assembly also expressed the expectation that a joint Yugoslav state would be created, and formed the Grand People's Council and the People's Administration, as authorities in the area of Banat, Backa and Baranja.
