On the Threshold of the Eighth Century : Tallinn Dome School 1319-2019 This book is published to mark the 700th anniversary of the first mention of the Tallinn Cathedral School and is one of the bridges between the centuries-long period of Baltic German culture and the new era after the restoration of the independence of the Republic of Estonia. Several books have been written about the history of the Cathedral School, but now the first original treatment written by Estonian authors is coming to light. It is clear from the book that despite the very difficult times, when the school has been in great need or even closed for various reasons, the Tallinn Cathedral School has always been the flagship of educational innovations at all times. Tallinn Cathedral School has also been a springboard for many future great men: scientists, educational, cultural and religious figures, influential figures from the political, social and military worlds. Tallinn Cathedral School was founded in the middle of 13th century. First record is from 1319. In 1765 it was turned into an academic school for nobility and was subjected to the Estonian Knighthood. From 1920 it worked as German-language high school under the name of Domschule zu Reval. The school finished its activities in 1939. In 2011 the Consistory of Estonian Evangelical Lutheran Churchand and Tallinn Dome-Cathedral Congragation decided to reopen the Tallinn Cathedral School as the first church-related denominational Lutheran private school in Estonia. In 2016/2017 there are in elementary school level (grades 1 to 6) about 160 students and 22 teachers. The number of students is increasing every new school year by opening next grade.
