  Letters to Power 1945-1989: Case Studies The volume of studies submitted to the reader is one of the effects of the team's three-year work, which dealt with letters from "ordinary citizens" to the authorities as a source for studying social history. Its members tried to establish methodological rules for the use of these letters and to analyze their content. The team's interest was in correspondence that flowed into four selected state institutions: the Central Committee of the Polish United Workers' Party, the Office of the Council of Ministers, the Chancellery of the Council of State and Polish Radio and Television. The undertaking of this undertaking resulted from the belief that the use of this type of source material for researching the past, although more and more frequent, is still unsatisfactory and does not fully use the opportunities inherent in them.
