  Croatian Encyclopedia The Croatian Encyclopedia, the general encyclopaedia of the Institute of Lexicography, is its fundamental edition and one of the central, permanent programmes of national culture. Begun in 1999, it is the fifth such endeavor in the Croatian language, after the Croatian Encyclopedia by M. Ujević, the Encyclopaedia of the Lexicographic Institute and two editions of the General Encyclopaedia, which it inherits in lexicographical reliability and basic experience, refreshed and expanded with unrestrained contents of Croatian national heritage and contemporaneity. The encyclopaedia presents the concepts of various disciplines and professions in a harmonious proportion, it talks about man, about the animate and inanimate world of our planet, about the universe and about all areas of the spirit, from history, archaeology, linguistics and mathematics to chemistry and biomedicine, computer science and astronomy. Special attention is paid to the etymology and pronunciation of foreign words, the position of Croatian culture and Croatian generations in a closer and universal environment.
