  • Description

Marin Vabranov (1932-1989) The name of Marin Varbanov is a symbol of the renewal of textile art in the 1960s and 1970s, not only in Bulgaria. He included Bulgarian artistic textiles in those world processes that led to the renewal not only of textile art, but also of the plastic arts in general. His influence on the development of artistic life is not limited to personal creative achievements. The school he created guides and guides many students from three continents - Europe, Australia and Asia. The artist is also the kind of teacher who educates his students (today most of them, like him, are teachers) to think avant-garde, globally, universally, to materialize their ideas in highly impactful large-scale plastic images. The present publication was developed on the basis of critical articles and reviews by Bulgarian and foreign authors, catalogues of exhibitions, video materials, slides, memories of his relatives, students and associates, as well as the author's personal archive. The credit goes mainly to the gallery owner from the town of Oryahovo, Neycho Savchev. Its goal is to inscribe in the public memory the image and work of the textile wizard - Prof. Marin Varbanov and to pay well-deserved tribute to an exceptional personality, to the Bulgarian who ranked his name among the great world artists.
