  Catalogue of Art Monuments in Poland: Volume IV, Issue 15 The "Catalogue of Art Monuments in Poland," published since 1951, is one of the most important publishing series of the Institute of Art of the Polish Academy of Sciences. The "Catalogue" represents a transition between a detailed topographic inventory and a concise catalog; it generally includes all monuments outside museum and private collections and is rich in information and illustrations. The compilation draws on the most comprehensive literature on the subject, archival materials, descriptions, historical information, and iconography. The series consists of volumes covering individual voivodeships, divided into volumes devoted to counties or cities. Because it is published in a format corresponding to the country's administrative division, subsequent changes have necessitated a change in the series' structure: the so-called "old" series comprises 13 volumes consistent with the pre-1975 administrative division, while the "new" series comprises 12 volumes corresponding to the 1975 division, where former counties are defined as the areas around major towns. Each issue consists of an introduction characterizing the given region and the specificity of its monuments, a proper catalogue of monuments in topographical-alphabetical order, a bibliography, illustrations, and indexes.
